The installation shows air quality (PM2.5) data from 10 Cities in China in real time and displayed into small
LCD screens which are attached to microprocessors and balloons. An application was developed on Amarino, which is a toolkit to connect Android-driven mobile devices with Arduino microcontrollers via Bluetooth. The toolkit provides easy access to internal phone events which can be further processed on the Arduino open-source prototyping platform. So, basically through the application we are able to retrieve data from a website containing the main Chinese Cities air quality via
Bluetooth and program this data on the small LCD screens.

The
installation was part of our "Breathe: the air we share" proposal for the Lisbon Architecture Trienalle, this part of the installation recreates the symbolic naivety of air – a weightless pure element floating in space. To accompany this poetic notion, juxtaposition will be shown as to the contemporary condition of polluted air in a country, China, where the quality of air is increasingly becoming vastly depleted.
